Dear baby boy,
The moment your Dad and I have eagerly waited for is almost here. It’s so so close. At 10:30 tomorrow morning, you will see this great big world for the first time. There will be lots of lights, loud sounds and new people. We’ll be experiencing the whole thing with you, just on the other side of the curtain. We can’t wait to look into your eyes and hold you in our arms. We’ve watched you grow inside my belly for the past 9 months and are looking forward to watching you grow for the rest of our lives. We are here to protect you, teach you, and love you with our whole hearts. We can’t wait to officially make you part of our little family.
Your Dad’s name is David and he’s 28 years old. We started to become friends in 10th grade when I started attending his church and going to the youth group. Your Dad led the youth worship band on Wednesday nights and I loved watching him play the guitar. Your Dad asked me to be his girlfriend in the summer of 2005… almost 12 years ago! I know, your parents are old. We dated through high school and college, got engaged (that’s when someone proposes to another person that they love and asks them to spend the rest of their lives with them) our last year of college, and got married when we were 22 and 21. We’ve enjoyed 6 wonderful years of marriage and waited for the perfect time to welcome a baby into our family. We had just bought a house (I can’t wait for you to see your nursery, it’s my favorite room!) and were getting settled in our new home and I had just lost my Dad, your Pop-Pop. We realized how short and precious life is. Our hearts were ready to grow our family. The Lord blessed us just two months later with those two pink lines, a positive pregnancy test. It was happening. A baby was coming (that’s you!) and we were thrilled!!
Throughout the past 9 months, your Dad and I did a lot to prepare for your arrival. We read countless articles, listened to podcasts, attended hospital classes, talked to experienced parents, and prayed. A lot. We painted your room, built new furniture, and stocked it with so many helpful things from people that love you so much. You have so many clothes, diapers, swaddles, toys, and books waiting for you. I’m so excited to read them with you!
You have a wonderful and loving family waiting to meet you. Some babies have Grandmas and Grandpas but yours have special names. Your Dad’s Mom and Dad are called Mango and Papaya and you are going to be their first grandbaby! They have prayed for you and love you so much. You also have a Sunshine, that’s my Mom and she’s already a grandma-pro. You have lots of Aunts and Uncles waiting to meet you and two girl cousins. We are so excited to add a boy to our family! You also have a Great Grandma who lives all the way over in California. Hopefully we can take you to meet her soon. We also have so many kind friends that you will learn feel like family.
Sweet babe, we are so excited that you are ours. We promise to do our best in making sure you are happy and healthy. Your Dad and I are new at this and we’re going to be learning all along the way. We aren’t perfect and we will fail. We ask for your grace and patience as we go through this journey together. No matter what, always remember that we love you and are your biggest supporters. Our love comes from a great big God who created you. We have a loving Father in Heaven who knows you, loves you and desires a relationship with you. Knowing Him has been the most powerful thing in my life and I look forward to teaching you more about Him. He already knows all about you, like the number of hairs on your head and the desires of your heart. He is a good, good Father.
Your Dad and I are going to go to sleep tonight for the last time as just the two of us and will eagerly wake up in the morning ready to start the rest of our lives with you. We’ll see you in just a few hours, little one. We’ll be the ones wearing blue with tears in our eyes and joy radiating from our smiles.
Thank you for following along and for all of the kind words and excitement so far!!
