I was challenged by another photographer friend to share what’s in my shooting bag right now…so I pulled everything (well, the important things) out to show you! I recently purchased an Allison Jo Totes shooting bag and I love it! It’s a cute, solid purse with padded removable inside liners to protect my gear. This is the perfect bag for shooting engagement sessions, portraits, or just to carry my camera around for the day. It’s not the best wedding day bag because I can only hold one extra lens inside. It’s not quite big enough for all my wedding gear. I love how it comes with a padded strap attachment because that bag can get heavy!
Alright, check out what’s currently inside my shooting bag:
From left to right:
Allison Jo Totes shooting bag. I have it in the butterscotch color. I’m a brown purse girl. Always. 🙂
Business cards. Those are always useful to have on hand!
Orbit gum. Gotta have fresh breath.
Blistex chapstick. I am. obsessed. with. blistex. I have one strategically placed all throughout my home/car/life so that a chapstick isn’t too far away.
Bobby pins. I usually start a session with my hair down but by the end, my hair is always up. These are great on windy days, not only for me but for my clients too!
My camera body. 5D Mark II with the 50mm f/1.2 L lens. This is my go-to portrait lens. It produces such beautiful, soft images. I use a camera hand strap instead of a neck strap. If I want to put my camera down, I either put it back in my bag or in my little shelf, also known as the inside of my bent elbow. Does that make sense? haha
A USB card reader for my compact flash cards.
The 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens. This is a new addition to our camera family. I’m a prime lens lover (no zoom) but this is so nice to be able to get wide angle and zoomed shots with one lens. It’s great for wedding ceremonies!
A backup camera battery.
My favorite pens! RSVP fine point. The best. And a sharpie. You never know when you need one.
iPhone headphones. On our most recent session, I wore these to listen to music on the subway on our way to Central Park!
Here’s an action shot of me shooting with my bag. David’s shot on the left and mine on the right. I hope you enjoyed a sneak inside my camera bag!

I love it Michelle! You keep a light bag, mine is stuffed with things that I probably don’t need (-;
Cute camera bag too! I’m also a brown bag kinda gal!

Thanks! It’s a new bag so I haven’t had enough time to fill it with random things. Check back in a few months 😉

I’m so impressed! I usually WAY over-pack… love your bag too!

Thanks, Melissa! The bag is already heavy enough, so I try to bring only what I need. I also have my husband with me who has a back up camera and extra gear. 😉
